Important Points to keep in mind when learning to play SpeedBall
- Teamplay: First of all, don't lose motivation when you lose. You didn't lose alone! Team communication and building good team karma is quite important!
- Learning Curve: You will improve the quickest in matches with/against better players. There you can spot your mistakes and learn new strategies. Monday's Funcups are a good opportunity to play with an experienced teammate and against a range of different teams.
- Map Knowledge: Start by learning the maps. You can find important spots to defend, good passing possibilities or fast moves to get to a highground or even to pole for scoring.
- Map Overview: Where are your teammates? (Do they need help?) Where are your opponents? (Did they get through your defense?) Where is the ball (main focus) - or are you in a good position for your team?
- Passing: Passing in your team is the core of SpeedBall. Try to get the ball safe from your opponents or outplay for an attack attempt! A position-ping often is a sign that someone wants a pass to that location.
- Ball Carry: Try to rotate between safe spots when you carry the ball. A teammate near by often will guarantee more safety. Also don't be afraid to carry the ball, only with experience you will become comfortable with the ball.
- Defence Positioning: Don't let gaps open for the attackers and respawn in time when you have to defend! Many positions bring you in an advantage that makes it easier to defend. ("Chokepoints")
- Attack Strategies: Find ways with your team to outplay the opponent. Don't run always alone in case it doesn't work out. A quick back-pass can safe you the ball for your team and also your life!
- Movement: Last but not least, try to improve your movement skills in the Obstacle mode. It is not a must-have to get a good SpeedBall-Player, but it can help a lot, to be able to move as fast as possible through the map.
